Central Mountain Piles Up Six Pins, Downs State College 45-24

STATE COLLEGE – The Central Mountain wrestling team relied on an old standby, pins, to pile up a 45-24 road victory over State College Tuesday night.
The dual meet, which started at 145 pounds, was only eight bouts old but the Wildcats had already notched five falls and never looked back to move to 9-1 on the season, State dropping to 5-5.
The tempo was set early, Lane Porter (13-8) first out at 145 pounds. His first period pin was followed by a second period fall from Alonzo Henry (18-7). After a State win at 160, Austin Confer (10-9) continued the pin parade in period number two of his 170 pound bout. Tanner Riggle (19-7) at 195 pounds and Jake Edwards (18-4) at heavyweight were next with first period pins.
Other winners included Derek Keen (19-5) with a 22-5 technical fall, Johnny Shreffler (18-4) with the night’s fastest pin (31 seconds) and Kayden Busey (10-9), a major decision at 132 pounds. Shreffler’s fall was the ‘Cats’ sixth and final one.
Afterwards Wildcat coach Biff Walizer noted that State College “had some talented individuals” but thought “the fight was there” for his team. He made mention of Henry’s win in the second bout of the night. Henry has been one of the pleasant surprises in the strong start to the Wildcat season. The Wildcat middleweight fell behind 4-1 after one period but picked up a takedown and pin in period two. Walizer said the Henry performance provided “a bit of a momentum swing.”
The Little Lions recognized their standout upper-weight, Cole Urbas, with a banner presentation on his 100th career win. Wildcat sophomore Nick Miller (12-9) drew Urbas (22-0) and did record a takedown against the Penn-bound grappler before Urbas pinned him in the second period.
The Central Mountain junior high team remained undefeated with a 66-13 thrashing of the Little Little Lions.
Central Mountain returns home Thursday night to host Williamsport (1-2) who fell to Mifflinburg 40-37 tonight.
