Wildcats Blitz Bellefonte 3-0 in Boys’ Soccer

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Central Mountain went on the attack early and often outpacing, outshooting and out hustling the Red Raiders in the early going of the game but kept coming up empty on their shots. Eventually the flood gates would open for a quick and decisive non-conference 3-0 win over visiting Bellefonte.

The Wildcats used the momentum from their previous two games this week and applied that same pace against Bellefonte. Though they had multiple scoring opportunities, CM could not convert those efforts into points and the scoreboard remained locked at 0-0 at intermission.

Finally, 12 minutes into the second period, Central Mountain hit pay dirt when Brayden Brungard fed the ball to Jensen Brown who broke the seal on the Bellefonte goal to put the hosts up 1-0.

Brown wasn’t finished.

Just 58 seconds later, Brown returned the favor to Brungard for the second score of the game and a Wildcat 2-0 lead.

Then only 1:14 after the second goal, Brown spread the wealth assisting Tommy Pringle for a solid shot to the back of the net and a 3-0 Central Mountain lead.

The 3-goal scoring onslaught only took the span of 2:12 to complete.

The best indicator of the offensive pressure Bellefonte faced throughout the game is CM had 23 shots on goal along with 10 corner kicks While the Red Raiders garnered only 5 shots on goal and just 2 corners on the day.

Brown led the ‘Cats with 5 shots followed by Brungard and Chase Young with 4 shots each. Dalton Bechdel and Jason Killinger had 3 shots each with Jeremiah Thomas collecting 2 shots and Trey Gentzel had 1. Gentzel also had several well done corner kicks in the game.

Fortunately the Wildcat defense had a little less pressure today than they faced earlier in week as they pitched a shutout with goal keeper, Cy Probst collecting 5 saves.

Today’s win is the last of a three game home stand this week that saw a 1-0 double overtime win over Jersey Shore and a hard-fought 3-0 loss to Williamsport.

“Three games this week and come out with 2 wins is huge,” said Central Mountain head coach, Billy Hook, “We would have liked to win all three but we played well all week.”

The intensity level displayed by the Wildcats this week was impressive as they battled each opponent throughout the week.

“The confidence is building, they have that taste of winning and they want to keep it,” Hook said of his team, “I really like where their heads are at.”

Central Mountain moves to 3-5 overall and remain at 2-3 in the PHAC.

The Wildcats will have a well-earned rest before they travel to Hollidaysburg, Sept. 24, 2018.
