Wallace W. Hakin – Obituary
Wallace W. Hakin, 87, resident of Avis, died May 14, 2014 at Gatehouse Hospice of Divine Providence Hospital in Williamsport.
Born in Brownsville, Pa. on December 24, 1926, he was the son of George and Susan Hakin.
Wally moved to Lock Haven when he was in high school. He graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1946.
Wally was a designer for Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven for over 30 years, retiring in 1984.
Wally was a World War II Army Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (Eberhart) Haken with whom he shared 63 years of marriage and his five children: Kim Andrus (James) of Hobe Sound, Florida; Wally Hakin of Lock Haven; and Connie Thompson (Thomas), Pamela Moriarity (Patrick), and Craig Hakin, all of Jersey Shore. He is also survived by a brother, Lynn Hakin of Mill Hall, and predeceased by a brother, George Hakin and a sister, Elva Yost. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Abby and Christopher Andrus, Eric Thompson, Jodie Chappel, Patrick and Chad Moriarity, and Courtney and Makenzie Hakin; and three great-grandchildren: Landon and Ryland Chappel and Brayden Loffredo. A niece, Bonnie Probst, and a nephew, Harold Yost, of Lock Haven also survive.
Wally was an avid golfer and woodworker. He was a founding member of the Clinton County Recreational Committee at Belle Springs Golf Course. He was able to combine his love for his family and his skill for woodworking by making furniture that his children and grandchildren will cherish for years!
Services will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington at 2 PM. The officiating clergy will be Rev. Susan Champion. Friends of the family will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Woolrich Cemetery.
