JERSEY SHORE – Jersey Shore Hospital is pleased to announce a new President & CEO, David A. Shannon.

The hospital Board of Directors has announced the appointment of David A. Shannon to the position of Jersey Shore Hospital President & CEO, which began May 1. Quorum Health Resources (QHR), the hospital’s management services company, conducted a national search for this position, and worked closely with the Board to identify the right candidate for the hospital and community.

Shannon, originally from Pennsylvania, comes to Jersey Shore from his previous position as CEO of Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln, Maine, where he has spent the past 20 years. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and his Master’s degree from Husson University in Bangor, Maine. “I look forward to getting to know and work with the medical staff, employees and Board, and becoming an active member of the community,” he said. “From what I’ve seen already, Jersey Shore Hospital has a great staff, and I look forward to continuing to move the hospital forward.”

Shannon is very excited to move back to the area, as both he and his wife Nancy’s families are nearby (in Harrisburg and Perkasie). They have 3 grown sons, and look forward to establishing roots in the community. Both he and Nancy have been active community volunteers in Lincoln.

Shannon said, “I’m all in, and plan to be here for the long haul. We are in the process of purchasing a house in Clinton County. It is great to be back in Pennsylvania, this is my home, it feels like I never left. Nancy and I look forward to this new chapter in our lives.”

Many immediate difficulties face Jersey Shore Hospital such as increasing operational costs, lower insurance reimbursements, constant healthcare changes, and maximizing efficiency. However, Shannon is up for the challenge and has already emphasized, and in some cases implemented, interdepartmental cross training to increase efficiency.

“We are excited for what the future holds,” said Mark Rice, Chief Financial Officer at Jersey Shore Hospital. “Dave’s financial and executive backgrounds are excellent qualifications for our new leader to possess. We are certainly in good hands.”
