Lady ‘Cats Prevail 5-4 in Eight Innings
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – It was a mix of experienced senior leadership and clutch, aggressive contributions from underclassmen as the Lady Wildcats held on with a bend-but-not-break defense and found the will to win a 5-4 decision in eight innings against visiting Jersey Shore.
The two programs are at the top level of their respective districts and are all too familiar with each other. That familiarity is has a foundation of respect. Twice the game was tied with Shore knotting the score in the top of the seventh inning to force the extra stanza.
Extra innings bring additional stress, however, the ‘Cats have been there before and believe they always have the opportunity to prevail.
Unfortunately, Central Mountain couldn’t muster any additional runs in the bottom of the seventh, Rachael Shady led her defense to hold the Lady Bulldogs at bay in the top of the eighth. Then in the bottom of the eighth, Shady led off with a stand-up double. Cassie Weaver came up just short of bunting Shady to third striking out. Next, Emily Stouse stepped up to the plate and drove a shot down the third base line to send Shady home sealing the victory.
The win sets the Lady Wildcats record at 14-3 on the season with two regular season games left on the slate for 2014. They will travel to Danville on Thursday then they are Troy bound on Friday.
