HAMMERSLEY FORK – Some 97 years ago a group of residents in Hamersley Fork Began to meet on Sommerson”s Front Porch for Sunday School. This group organized a church and built a small round church next door. This church was known as the Gospel Tabernacle. The church encountered many trials in the early years including dynamite hidden in the flue of the woodstove and tar being poured over the hymnals and piano. Despite the trials the church continued to grow.

They would eventually build another church building prior to the present building. The church affiliated with the Assemblies of God in the 60’s and changed the name to Emmanuel Assembly of God. Through the history of the church attendance grew to over 100 people.

In recent years as the population has dwindled so has attendance at the church. It is a miracle that the church has survived the past 10 to 15 years. It can be attributed to the sacrifice and prayers of a few faithful members and the support of the Penn Del District of the Assemblies of God that the church has remained open.

Mother’s Day. May 11, 2014 will mark the final service for the church and the current pastor, Rev. Charles A. Lefort. Pastor Lefort resigned his position at the church to take a position at Clearfield Presbyterian Church. He states that He and his family have had many great times serving the Kettle Creek Valley and will take fond memories with them when they depart. Renovo will always have a special place in our hearts and will continually be in our prayers.
