Miss Bucktail Reigns!
FARWELL – The crowd at Sunday’s Coronation ceremony at Bucktail Area High School erupted into cheers as it was announced that Miss Bucktail, Anna Cowfer, was named the 2017 Flaming Foliage Queen from a field of 25 young women. The daughter of Shannon Norenberg and Roy Cowfer was all smiles as she and escort Cody Hand made their way around the room for a ceremonial walk as the newly-crowned Queen, stopping along the way for hugs and congratulations from family and friends.
Caroline Wise, representing Port Allegany High School, was named first runner-up, and Miss Smethport, Hailey Hoch, was second runner-up. Cowfer and Wise were also selected to share the title of Miss Congeniality, based on voting by their fellow queen contestants. Brayden Button, who escorted Miss Wellsboro to the 69th annual Flaming Foliage Festival, was named Mr. Congeniality.
Abigail Martin, representing Penns Valley High School, was named Miss Photogenic. Miss South Williamsport, Allaryn Smith, received the Judges Award for Community Service.
Martha Sykes served as master of ceremonies for the 3:00 p.m. coronation. Sylvia Moore performed a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, and the Renovo Community Choir entertained the crowd with several musical selections. The Flaming Foliage Hostesses, their escorts and Miss Bucktail and her escort, were called up on stage to show off a few dance moves, and the queens escorts were asked to join in on the entertainment, offering a few dance moves of their own.
Michelle Hunter, the 2016 Flaming Foliage Queen who last year represented South Williamsport High School, had the honor of crowning Miss Bucktail as the reigning Queen.
