Corl Shuts Down Bulldogs

JERSEY SHORE — It was a classic “pitch to contact” contest from Central Mountain sophomore right-hander Toner Corl against previously undefeated Jersey Shore on Wednesday.
Corl spaced out five singles and did not register a strikeout; instead he left it to the Wildcat defense which played errorless ball and recorded all 21 outs in the field. Particularly outstanding was a late game sliding catch by junior centerfielder Trevor Packer to save a run and end the inning.
For Corl it was his second varsity start and his second complete game win. A week ago he shut down Altoona in a 6-hit complete game 7-2 win. Wednesday it was Jersey Shore absorbing its first loss after six straight wins to start the season.
Central Mountain used a 3-run second inning against Travis Eiswerth to open a lead the Wildcats would not surrender. The senior Eiswerth had shut down the Wildcats at Mill Hall Community Park a year ago.
Central Mountain is now 4-2 on the season. The win was the second shutout of the week on the road against a District 4 opponent; Monday junior Zach Skrtich pitched a 1-hitter in a 5-0 win at Williamsport.
The Wildcats return home next Tuesday against Punxsutawney.
