CM Tops Shamokin 3-2 … the Hard Way

cm-volleyballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Another night. Another win for the Lady Wildcat volleyball squad, though, this one didn’t come easy.

It took five games for Central Mountain (4-5) to secure a 3-2 win over rising Shamokin that came down to the wire with a 15-12 win over the Lady Indians in the fifth and tie-breaker game.

CM started off with a solid lead in the first game, then Shamokin battled back and took the opening contest 29-27. Then the Lady ‘Cats followed up with a win of their 25-19 win of their own in Game 2.

The their game would be another tightly played effort with the Lady Wildcats holding on to edge Shamokin 27-24.

Then the Lady Indians tilted the scales in their favor by shifting the momentum their way to outpace CM 25-18 forcing the fifth and final game.

Once again, it was more of the same with both teams battling hard for the win with Central Mountain holding a slim lead as they approached their goal and managed to hit the magic number of 15 with a three point advantage to seal the victory.

Topping the offensive stats for kills were Vanessa Soo, 14; Jenni Skow, 13 and Pamela Gunsallas, 8. For Aces it was Elaina Eckley with 6, Maegan Miller had 2 and Soo added one.

Defensively, Miller amassed 30 digs followed by Makenna Bittner and ECkley, each with 15 and Kelsie Buckwalter had 10 and Jenni Skow contributed 10 digs. Too had five block for CM with Gunsallas adding 2 and Madalyn Bashore had 30 assists on the night and a block.

Next action for the Lady Wildcats is a road trip to Wellsboro on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016.
