LHU Football Edged in Offensive Shootout

LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven University football team (0-2) and Edinboro University (2-0) combined for 1,075 total yards of offense, including 920 through the air and 82 total points in a 44-38 Fighting Scot victory.

LHU quarterback Caleb Walton (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) threw for a career-high 423 yards and two TDs and running back Malyk Harris (Harrisburg, Pa./Albright College) ran for two scores. But Edinboro quarterback Jake Sisson shredded the LHU defense for 486 yards passing on a 28-for-47 afternoon good for five touchdowns and one interception.

Shawn Seif (Harrisburg, Pa./Kutztown University) scored on an 87-yard reception and a 45-yard reception to help pace the potent Bald Eagle attack. He finished with five catches and 197 yards (2 TDs).

Del’Vaughn Dennis (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) hauled in eight catches for 135 yards.

True-freshman Nysir Minney-Gratz (Easton, Pa./Easton) also provided a huge offensive spark. The wide receiver made two catches (24 yards), scored on a nine-yard run and added a huge jolt on kick returns.

Defensively, Carmelo Cruz (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic), Isaiah Flamer (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) and Kevin Chapple (Columbus, Ohio/Urbana) led the way for Lock Haven.

Cruz finished with a team-high eight tackles while Flamer had seven tackles and two interceptions. Chapple registered six tackles, which included a sack and three tackles-for-loss.

Trailing 31-30 early in the fourth quarter, LHU forced a safety and took the 32-31 lead with 13:59 to play. Edinboro however went right down the field and scored to take the lead back at 37-32 and the Fighting Scots scored a crucial touchdown with 4:25 remaining on a 99-yard pass-play that gave them in the 44-32 cushion.

The Bald Eagles will host No. 12 Slippery Rock next Saturday (September 17) in Week 3 action.
