Clinton 11-12 fall 10-9 in Eight Innings to Hepburn-Montour
ELIMSPORT – The Clinton Softball 11-12 All-Stars took Hepburn-Montour into extra innings seeking a win to advance in District 12 play Saturday but fell 10-9 in the eighth inning.
Clinton feel behind early 6-0 giving up four run in the first and two more in the second inning. In the third inning, Clinton managed to plate their first run but Hepburn-Montour replied in kind with another run of their own in the bottom of the inning for a 7-1 lead over Clinton.
In the fourth inning, Aubrielle Pinero got things going by blasting an in-the-park bases loaded homer that closed the gap to 7-5. Hepburn-Montour once again answered back with another run in the bottom of the the inning to set a 8-5 lead.
Hepburn-Montour shut down Clinton in the top of the fifth and added another run to their total to hold a 9-5 lead after five full innings.
Not to be denied, Clinton once more found their bats and solid base running to plate four runs in the sixth inning to knot the game at 9-9 to force extra innings to establish the victor.
In the seventh inning, both defenses stiffened and kept each other from scoring toehold the score at 9-9.
In the eighth inning, Hepburn kept up their stingy defensive play only allowing one Clinton batter to reach base then answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to end the game and eliminate Clinton from the tournament.
In the circle, it was Emma Poorman going the distance for Clinton who fanned 9 Hepburn-Montour batters on the day while giving up 6 walks.
Offensively Pinero had the homer and Lexi Strouse pounded out four singles and Savana Kelly had a double and a single. Ellie Dershem and Ally Ruble each had a pari of base hits while Ali Lucas and Kaylee Rupert each added a base hit.
