LHU Closes Spring Trip with Sweep of Kutztown
WILSON, N.C. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (7-6, 3-1 PSAC East) rolled to two monster wins Saturday against PSAC East rival Kutztown University (10-11, 1-3 PSAC East) in Wilson, North Carolina.
After splitting Friday’s conference opener, the Bald Eagles had everything clicking Saturday, as The Haven rolled to 9-1 and 18-4 wins.
The two wins helped LHU take three-of-four games from Kutztown this weekend.
Lock Haven’s nine runs came off of 12 hits in game one.
Jacob Belinda (Port Matilda, Pa./Tyrone) was outstanding on the mound and picked up his first win of the season. Belinda threw six innings and allowed just one run on three hits. He walked just one batter on the afternoon and set a new career-high with 11 strikeouts.
Ethan Moore (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) led LHU at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
Evan McFarland (Cottonwood, Ariz./Gateway Community College) was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
Hunter Szaflarski (Greencastle, Pa./Hagerstown Community College) had a double and drove in two RBIs for LHU.
Lock Haven followed up the game one win with a monster game two effort. LHU scored 18 runs on 20 hits in the win.
McFarland had a monster game two. He went 4-for-5 with a homerun, a double, six RBIs and he scored three runs.
Combined in the two games, McFarland was 7-for-8 with two doubles, a homerun and eight RBIs.
Nick Stotler (Pittsburgh/Coker College) had a perfect 3-for-3 game at the plate. He scored three runs and added an RBI.
Jamie Eshleman (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) added two hits and drove in two runs with a double in the win.
Zach Manuppelli (Pittsburgh/USC Upstate) threw six solid innings and picked up his second win of the year. He struck out four.
Saturday’s games marked the end of Lock Haven’s spring break trip. The Bald Eagles return north this week and are in action on Saturday, March 19 when The Haven takes on Penn State Schuylkill at Foundation Field in the 2016 home opener. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
