Buck Boys Busy Now – Probst Nears 1,000

by Jim Morgan
FARWELL – For the Bucktail Bucks, now 4-6, it had been a long two weeks since their last game at the Coudersport holiday tournament. It showed a little last Thursday against Montgomery as the Red Raiders won 55-44.
The contest was a doggie doggie fight to the end as Montgomery tried every way to give the Bucks the game. In the fourth quarter, Montgomery was given three technical fouls but the Bucks could not capitalize on it. The Bucks shot 14 for 38 from the charity stripe this night, let alone many missed shots on uncontested lay-ups during the game.
Right from the beginning of the game Bucktail could not find the bottom of the net. Bucktail had one goal and Senior Chuck Probst was 3 for 4 from the foul line as he was high scorer with 18 points as he had half the field goals in the game. Nobody could get the job done at the foul line except Josh Knauff as he was 5 for 6 from the line. Even with all the missed shots in the first half, the Bucks were only down by 7 at half time 31-24.
The third quarter was no different than the first half as the Bucks struggled getting 5 points in the quarter. In the second half, the Bucks went 8 for 24 from the line, handing the game right back to Montgomery. Remarkably, Bucktail did not have one assist during the game.
The JV game saw the Red Raiders beat the Bucks 49-32. Bucktail’s Tristan Schelb was the high scorer with 11 points.
Saturday the Bucks traveled up to Northern Potter to seal a win 70-57. The Bucks took total control of this Saturday afternoon matinee with a 22-8 start in the first quarter. Coach Dave Pentz got a good lead and was able to work on some offense. “We needed a game like this one in order to get us back on track for the rest of the season.” Probst was able to drive on NP at will as he ended up high scorer with 28 points. Trent Risley followed up with 17 points of his own.
In the JV game, it was Bucktail over NP 54-16 with balanced scoring by the Bucks as Tyler Riggle scored 14 points. Tristen Schelb finished with 13 points and Kiefer Mason supported with 11 points.
At Muncy Monday Bucktail was doing fine until halftime as the score was 35-25 the Indians.
Muncy took control in the second half, winning 90-50. In the fourth quarter, it was the mercy rule on the Bucks, the visitors leaving Muncy shoot at will, not boxing out in the second half. Muncy came out of the locker room and just took complete control of the game.
Chuck Probst was high scorer for the Bucks with 20 points, as Risley helped out with 13 points of his own.
JV game was a good one as the Bucks came out with a victory over Muncy 53-44. High scorer for the Bucks was Josh Knauff with 18 points.
Next up for the Bucks was this Wednesday at home against Benton starting at 6:00 PM. Senior Chuck Probst is just 17 points away from joining the 1000 point club in his career. Then on Friday they continue to play at home against CMVT starting at 6:00 PM. followed by a matinee on Saturday afternoon with St. John Neumann at home starting at 1:00 PM. GOOD LUCK BUCKS!!!
