Rehm & McKinney Win Titles for LHU

lhu-matsERIE, Pa. – Bobby Rehm (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and Aaron McKinney (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) won the 133 and 157-pound individual titles, respectively, leading the Lock Haven University wrestling team to a second-place finish at the 2015 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.

Lock Haven finished second for the second straight season. The Bald Eagles were looking to dethrone Edinboro and win their first PSAC title since 2000-01, but came up just short.

The Fighting Scots won their fifth straight title with 136.5 points behind six champions. Lock Haven racked up 118 points and Mercyhurst was third (108.5).

Dan Neff (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco), Tyler Wood (West Chester, Pa./West Chester-Rustin) and Tristan Sponseller (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) all placed second for the Bald Eagles.

Cody Wheeler (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) and Brad Emerick (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) both finished fifth, while Jake Field (South Elgin, Ill./Marmion Academy) and Phil Sprenkle (Seven Valleys, Pa./Dallastown) placed sixth.

With his 133-pound title today, Rehm became a three-time PSAC Champion. He won the 125-pound titles during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.

Today, Rehm was 3-0, using a pin and tech fall to earn a spot in the title bout. In the finals, Rehm majored Bloomsburg’s Andy Schutz, 9-1.

McKinney was 4-0 on the way to the title at 157. He dominated Kutztown’s Matt Martoccio 8-3 in the finals.

Neff finished the day 3-1 at 141. He was edged 6-4 in the finals by Clarion’s Brock Zacherl. Both Neff and Zacherl entered the tournament nationally ranked in several polls.

Wood went 2-1 at 174 on the way to his second-place finish and Sponseller was second at 184, thanks to a 3-1 record on the day.

Wheeler was fifth at 149 after going 3-2 and Emerick was 4-2 on the way to his fifth-place showing at 285.

Field was 2-3 at 125 pounds, finishing sixth. Sprenkle was 1-1 in the tournament before defaulting out at 197.

LHU returns to action on Saturday, December 12 when the Bald Eagles travel to No. 24 West Virginia for a 7 p.m. match.
