BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Renovo area representative Butch Knauff has been elected president of the Keystone Central School Board.

Knauff’s selection came at the board’s annual reorganizational meeting tonight. He had been serving as interim board chair after previous president Jack Peters resigned following the latter’s defeat in last spring’s primary election.

Knauff was elected on a 6-3 vote over Deborah Smith. She had been nominated by board member Charlie Rosamilia who along with Smith and Roger Elling voted for her; board members Albert Jones, Jeff Johnston, Wayne Koch, Greg Strouse, Tom Shafer and Knauff voting for Knauff. Jones was named board vice-president on a 9-0 vote.

The board also conducted a brief regular meeting agenda. Items approved included the retirement of Scott Owens, the district Director of Career & Technology Center, effective Dec. 1. Owens had been put on leave in October although the district made no announcement as to why. After the meeting superintendent Kelly Hastings said she has been serving as program director in the interim. She said the district “very soon” will begin a search for a permanent replacement for Owens.
