Mill Hall Bans Burn Barrels
MILL HALL – It’s official. Burn barrels are done in Mill Hall. Borough council recently voted to outlaw the barrels. January 1 will be the cutoff date for their use and borough residents have been given until Jan. 14 to remove the barrels. Borough officials had wrestled with the issue for some years and moved at last week’s meeting to prohibit the barrels. Council vice-president Vince Shay Jr. voted against the decision, noting 60 some borough residents had purchased annual permits to able to burn their refuse, producing $620 for Mill Hall this year for 62 permits. Mayor Tom Bossert said that the county recycling program offers a viable alternative to burning.
