Millionaires Speed Past Wildcats (Video Report)

cm-footballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP — Williamsport High School brought a new coach and a new system to Malinak Stadium Friday night. They also brought along a Millionaire tradition, great team speed, a trait that proved too much for Central Mountain to overcome in the kickoff to the 2015 season.

Before the Wildcat defense settled in Williamsport raced to 27-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 48-30 triumph. The Millionaires rode the run-pass duo of juniors Elliot Walker and Isaiah Hankins to the first win for new head coach Chuck Crews. Walker, used sparingly in the second half, rushed for 79 yards on just six carries while Hankins was all but untouchable at quarterback, completing 18 of 22 passes for 333 yards.

Central Mountain never could overcome the 27-0 deficit but they certainly tried. Paced by a superlative all-around game from quarterback/safety Justin Neff, the Wildcats got back within 34-17 late in the third period but Williamsport had too much offensive power to overcome, finishing the night with 552 yards of offense.

Neff scored all four Wildcat touchdowns on runs of 15, 2 and 33 yards, plus a 75-yard kickoff return. He finished with 112 yards rushing on 13 carries and was 5-for-9 passing for 76 yards. Hunter Weaver added 11 carries for 49 yards and Bryce Mansfield helped out with 32 yards on 8 rushes.

CM unveiled a new kicker in sophomore Austyn Carson. Filling in for the injured Kathryn Myers (hurt in soccer practice), Carson was 3-for-4 in extra points and boomed a 34-yard field goal. Tyler Zablocki had a good night punting, including one for 65 yards. But the night belonged to Williamsport, a squad with only three seniors on its roster and a bright future.

Central Mountain will try and bounce back next Friday night, hosting Shamokin.
The Indians opened the season with a 28-7 win over Line Mountain.
