Progress Amidst Change in South Renovo
Lacy Steps Down
SOUTH RENOVO – Longtime South Renovo water department head Gerald Lacy is stepping down.
Borough council Monday night accepted the Lacy resignation from his position of Water System Manager and Filter Plant Operator.
After eighteen plus years of service to South Renovo Borough, Lacy submitted a letter of resignation dated June 22 giving four weeks’ notice stating his plan to retire. Council voted unanimously to accept the resignation. Two candidates have been interviewed by the water committee for the position.
In other water business, it was discussed and voted on to accept a bid from Kerry A. Uhler, the borough’s engineer in the amount of $5,400 to survey and map the borough’s water system. With the retirement of Lacy and as required by DEP, the borough’s water system needs to be documented and mapped for emergency purposes and record keeping.
Harry Brooks, the borough’s ordinance officer attended Monday night’s meeting to give an update on property maintenance violations within the borough. Council discussed three potential dangerous structures located throughout the borough and it was agreed that a local contractor would be contacted to evaluate these properties. The owners of these properties do not live within the borough and will be notified of the findings.
Robert Cozzi gave his monthly report on the progress the street committee has been making on the rainy, growing season this summer. Street laborer Bryce Fisher joined Cozzi in reporting on the maintaining of borough properties and the water plant. It was noted that the Careerlink student worker scheduled for the summer work program hasn’t worked out. Street employees have been busy trimming trees, mowing grass and maintaining the playground. Crosswalk painting and a guardrail project on 1st street is planned for the next couple of weeks.
Citizen’s Hose Company of South Renovo presented a letter asking the Borough council to comment on the ability of South Renovo’s water system to provide adequate water in case of a fire. James Palmer discussed the letter with council stating that the fire company would like to work with South Renovo in obtaining any needed funding to improve on this ability.
The borough received a $7,000 check from the Clinton County Community Foundation for the new pavilion in the playground. South Renovo was awarded the grant in January from the Foundation to build the much needed pavilion. Bucktail Enterprises completed the pavilion in time for the KCSD Summer Recreation program which began June 17 and will run through August 14 and is well attended daily.
Bills were presented and approved for payment including the recently completed paving project of Fourth, Fifth and Pine Streets and the parking area at Lisa’s Restaurant. The tax collector presented tax payments in the amount of $2,531.20 and a report on the remainder of taxes due the borough in the amount of $12,445.
Frank Morton, Sr. concluded the meeting with mayor’s comments regarding the street employees and a recent community service candidate for the borough.
