Keystone Edges Montour 8-6 to Advance

key-base-logoBALLS MILLS – The Keystone 10-11 All-Stars trailed Montoursville early but hung on to rally a couple of runs late in the game to win 8-6 and advance to the District 12 Championship set for Friday night 6 p.m. at Volunteer Stadium.

After one full inning of play, Keystone was on the under side of a 3-2 Montoursville lead.

Not to be swayed in their effort, Keystone refused to relinquish any more than a narrow lead to Montour throughout.

Trailing 5-2 going into the bottom of the third inning, Keystone battled back. Cy Probst reached first on a fielder’s choice then advanced all the way home on a string of passed ball miscues by Montoursville.

Later that same inning, Brady Bendik pounded the ball over the centerfield fence for a solo homer to narrow the Montour lead to 5-4.

With the score knotted at 6-all heading into the final inning, Bendik would score once more on some savvy base running and solid hitting that included a double by Nash Welch and a clutch single from Kelvin Probst to put the Keystoners up 8-6.

Keystone would deter Montoursville from any further scoring in the bottom of the sixth to end the game and advance to the finals.

On the mound, Caden Falls pitched a solid 4 2/3 innings with Cy Probst finishing out the game for 1 1/3 innings and the save.

Montoursville will now face Loyalsock Tuesday, July 14, 6 p.m. at the Montoursville field to see who will advance to the finals at Volunteer on July 17.
