Clinton Battles Hard, Falls to Newberry 14-8
BALLS MILLS – Clinton 10-11 Softball All-Stars came ups a bit short against Newberry falling 14-8 in the winner’s bracket final.
Only trailing 3-1 heading into the third, Clinton had a problem inning that saw Newberry crank out 6 runs for a 9-1 advantage.
Newberry tacked on another run in the fifth and added a pair more in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 11-1. All indications were that Newberry would cruise to victory. Clinton, however, had other ideas.
Clinton put together four hits and three walks to earn six runs of their own. After five full inning, Clinton narrowed the Newberry lead to 11-7.
Newberry stepped up to the challenge and scored three more in the top of the sixth inning, only allowing Clinton a lone run in the bottom half to end the scoring at 14-8.
At the plate, Ally Robbie had 3 singles, Peanut Chaplain pounded out 2 singles, Ellie Dershem had a base hit and Sydney Cooper had a double for Clinton.
From the circle, Kara Stover and Chaplain slip the duty, each going three innings in the hot July sun.
Clinton will now face Hepburn on Tuesday, July 14 at the Lock Haven field for the loser’s bracket final. Hepburn beat Williamsport 8-5 today to advance.
The winner of Tuesday’s game will face Newberry Friday, July 17 for a 8:30 p.m. contest at Volunteer Stadium. Clinton would need to beat Newberry twice to win the championship, the “if” game is slated for Saturday, July 18, 2015 for 11 a.m. at Volunteer Stadium.
