Not this year: Keystone Falls to Montour 15-0
NEWBERRY — Keystone Little League fans never saw this one coming.
A Keystone Major team that had romped to three loser bracket shutout victories couldn’t do it one more time, falling in the Wednesday loser bracket district final, a 4-inning 15-0 loss to Montoursville.
Montour could do little wrong in eliminating Keystone, posting eight runs in the first inning, 15 overall against three Keystone pitchers, all of whom had done well previously on the tourney trail. But not Wednesday evening.
Montour, defending District 12 champions, had been stung 7-3 the night before by still undefeated Williamsport. Montoursville showed its resiliency, piling up eight in the first and seven in the third, putting up 11 hits and taking advantage of five Keystone walks.
The winning team’s Logan Ott, who had no-hit Keystone in a 6-0 first round Montour win on July 2, was almost as effective Wednesday, going three shutout innings, striking out six and surrendering singles to Zane Probst and Peyton Johnson. Josh Burger finished up for Montoursville, giving up a fourth inning single to Aidan Major, the last of three Keystone hits on the evening.
Montoursville earned a rematch with Williamsport in the district final game Friday at 6 p.m. at Volunteer Stadium in South Williamsport. Montour would have to win that contest to force a Saturday 11 a.m. winner-take-all-contest for the district crown.
