CHARLTON – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is advising drivers that a detour is now in place as replacement work is underway on the Island Road (T-565) Chatham Run Bridge in Pine Creek Township. The work is expected to last through November 2 and an official detour is in place for the length of the project, while the Island Road is closed at the bridge. The detour will direct drivers to use T-565 (Island Road), T-428 (Stewart Road), SR 150, T-433 (Harley Drive) and back to T-565 (Island Road).

Crews have begun work to replace the current bridge with a new one-span composite pre-stressed concrete bulb-tree beam bridge. The bridge spans Chatham Run. The 100-foot bridge was originally built in 1920 and carries an average of 800 vehicles daily. The existing bridge is on the state’s structurally deficient list.

PennDOT said overall work will include replacement of the bridge and approach work.  The project is expected to last until the beginning of November but PennDOT will open both lanes of the bridge earlier if work progress allows.  Nestlerode Contracting Co, Inc., of Lock Haven is the contractor on the $800,000 project.
