LHU Men’s Basketball outlasts Slippery Rock in overtime, 100-93
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Keith Warren poured in 22 points and the Lock Haven men’s basketball team outscored Slippery Rock 21-14 in overtime as the Bald Eagles outlasted the opposition, 100-93, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory on Saturday afternoon in Thomas Fieldhouse.
The win snapped a two-game skid and lifted Lock Haven to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in PSAC play, while Slippery Rock slipped to 10-2, 3-1 in the conference.
Lock Haven shot a blistering 57 from the field and went 32-of-41 at the free-throw line.
Warren finished 7-of-13 from the floor and 7-of-8 at the stripe, adding three rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. Dean Coleman-Newsome joined him with 21 points and five rebounds, going 10-of-11 at the line and hit two key free throws with 2:31 left in regulation that helped force overtime.
Blake Deegan gave Lock Haven a huge lift with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range, while pulling down four boards. Dyllon Scott stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, five rebounds and a game-high seven assists, and Luke Kennevan chipped in eight rebounds and six points.
Lock Haven led 71-60 with just over nine minutes to play, but The Rock mounted a furious comeback, behind a game-high 39 points by Dame Givner, and knotted the score at 77-77 with 3:37 to go.
Both teams had chances in the final minute of regulation, but Lock Haven’s defense forced a turnover in the closing seconds and a contested Slippery Rock layup at the horn bounced off to send it to overtime at 79-79.
In the extra session, Deegan opened with a 3-pointer and Lock Haven went on to outscore The Rock, 21-14, to seal the victory.
The Bald Eagles finished with a 46-46 draw in points in the paint but held a 32-21 advantage at the free-throw line and turned 20 Slippery Rock turnovers into 20 points.
