Tigers Fend Off Late Sugar Valley Rally to Down Phoenix, 10-6

McAlisterville- Sugar Valley headed to face District 4 foe East Juniata on Monday night in search of their first win of the season. The Phoenix put up a strong effort, but couldn’t complete a late rally against the Tigers.

Sugar Valley struck first with a run in the top of the first, but East Juniata countered with a pair of their own runs to hold a 2-1 lead.

EJ’s lead grew following a lone run in the third inning and a big 5-run fourth inning to hold a 8-1 lead.

The sixth inning seen the Phoenix explode for 5 runs to set the score at 8-6, in favor of the Tigers.

East Juniata added a pair of runs in their half of the sixth inning to set the 10-6 final.

The Tigers, now 2-4 pounded out 11 hits to just 3 hits from Sugar Valley.

Brody Swanger led the Sugar Valley offense with 2 hits and Briar Martin added a single.

The Phoenix will still be searching for their first victory on Wednesday when they host Muncy at Taggert Park in a Mid Penn Conference clash.
