The Phoenix Qualify Three For District 4 AA Tournament

HUGHESVILLE -The Sugar Valley Rural Charter School Phoenix trio of Hunter Berry, Jarren McCloskey and Wyatt Conoway all earned trips to the District 4 Class AA Tournament on Saturday at the District 4 Central Sectional Tournament at Hughesville High School.
Berry (114) and McCloskey (139) both finished with second finishes, while Conoway took a fourth place finish, as the top four place winners from each of the District 4 three sectional tournaments qualify for the District championship tournament to be held this coming Friday and Saturday at Williamsport High School. Action gets started Friday night at 5 pm.
The Phoenix finished in sixth place in the 10 team field, as the talented Montoursville Warriors won the team title with 231.5 points, while Montgomery was second with 205.5 points and the host Hughesville Spartans were third with 169.5 points. The Phoenix tallied a total of 76 points for their sixth place finish.
Berry lost by fall to Liam Seeley of Montgomery in 2:49 of their finals match at 114 pounds, the Phoenix freshman is now 23-9 on the season, while McCloskey lost a 19-4 tech fall to Montgomery standout Brandt Harer in the finals at139 pounds, as the Phoenix senior is now 24-8 on the season.
Junior Wyatt Conoway dropped his third place bout when he was forced to injury default to Julius Serrano of Bloomsburg at the 3:00 mark with Serrano leading 10-3 at the time of the default. Conoway is now 20-13 on the season.
Leroy Culvey (5-16), Taylor Cantolina (14-16), Tobias Conoway (21-11), Thayne Jefferies (8-7), Lincoln Breon (15-7) and Koda Mincer (17-14) all saw their seasons come to a close. Cantolina took a fifth fifth place finish, while Conoway, Jefferies and Breon all finished in sixth place.
