Obituary -Nellie Elizabeth “Nanny” Lucas

Nellie Elizabeth “Nanny” Lucas, 82, of Blanchard was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

She was born April 21, 1942, a daughter of the late Lester and Rilla (Cashner) Seyler.
Nanny was a 1960 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School.

On December 20, 1975, she married Mark R. Lucas, with whom she shared 39 years of marriage before his passing in 2015.

Nanny worked at Woolrich Woolen Mills for 35 years. She then owned Cherish House, a personal care home in Blanchard, until retiring in 2004.

Her strong faith was evident throughout her life. She attended Romola Bible Church where she played the piano for services as well as the choir for many years.
Nanny was an amazing cook and baker. She was also a talented seamstress, mending many people’s clothes over the years.

She was always up for an adventure, especially if it had to do with camping.
Nanny enjoyed crocheting.

Most important to her, though, was her family. She loved her nightly phone calls with her daughter, Gretchen as well as playing games with her family. She was the number one supporter of her grandchildren, attending their various swimming, soccer, dance and cheer events.

Surviving are her daughters, Valerie D. (Brian) Coakley of Beech Creek and Gretchen A. (John) Zellers of Mifflinburg; two grandchildren, Gabriel O. and Sloane V. Coakley; a sister-in-law, Mary Seyler of Loganton; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, George Seyler, Sr. and Nancy (Charles) Hudson.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11 AM at Romola Bible Church, 2280 Marsh Creek Rd., Howard, with Pastor William Livermore officiating. Interment will be at Romola Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received at the church on Friday, January 17 from 6 until 8 PM and again on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of the service.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington.
