Obituary – Jean L. Strouse
Jean L. Strouse, 100, a resident of Nippenose Valley Village, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, October 13, 2024.
Born August 20, 1924 in Tylersville, she was a daughter of the late Torrence and Nettie Troutner Miller.
Jean was a 1942 graduate of Sugar Valley High School.
In 1944, Jean traveled by train to South Dakota to marry her love, Ray Richard Strouse, before he left to serve in World War II. They shared many wonderful years together before his passing in 1987.
Jean was employed in food services at Penn State University.
She was a faithful member of Clintondale United Methodist Church where she served as the pianist for many years.
Jean was a member of Knotty Knitters as well as a Christian clown ministry.
She enjoyed traveling and going on bus trips. Over the years, she saw many places and had many adventures including being baptized in the Jordan River and whitewater rafting in Alaska at the age of 80.
Jean loved camping, and up until the age of 94, could be seen riding her bicycle to the post office.
She had an array of talents including crocheting, knitting, quilting, sewing and baking apple dumplings.
Most precious to Jean, though, was the time she spent with her family.
Surviving are her sons: Monty (Patricia) of Centre Hall, Ronald (Joy) of Mill Hall, Kerry of Rote and Kim (Debra) of Rote; daughters, Spring (David) Mosser of Millersburg and Heather (Jeffrey) Selfe of Pinellas Park, FL; daughter-in-law, Kitty Strouse of Mill Hall; sister, Patricia Zimmerman of Howard; 17 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 21 great, great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul Strouse; daughter-in-law, Ann Strouse; grandson, Jordan Selfe; three brothers; and a sister.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 2 PM at Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745, with Pastor Dan Christopher officiating.
Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 12 PM until the time of service.
Memorial contributions in Jean’s name may be made to either Clintondale United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
