Obituary – Donald Wayne Thorsten

Donald Wayne Thorsten, 81, years old of Shintown, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at his lifelong home. Born May 14, 1943, in Renovo, he was the son of the late Harry Richard and Mary Alice (Mazie) Walters.

Donald was a 1961 Renovo High School graduate. He served as a medic in the United States Air Force for four years which got him the nicknames “Flash “and “Doc”. In his early years, he worked at Piper Aircraft, before retiring from the Hammermill. He formed lasting friendships everywhere he went with his effortless humor.

An avid hunter, he was a proud member of the Drury Run hunting gang and the NRA. He loved fishing native trout streams and had a knack for catching big brown trout. He loved to golf at Emporium Country Club with his sons-in-law and friends. He was a member of the Christian Community Church in South Renovo.

He was always on the go visiting his kids and grandkids with his beloved dog Nelly. He took great joy in supporting his grandkids at all their sporting events and school activities. In his leisure time, he kept his mind sharp by completing his daily crypto quotes.

He is survived by his sister, Carol Dincher, and five children from his former spouse, Kay Rhodes: Lona (Christopher) Moore, Jennifer (Mark) Intallura, Amy Thorsten, Mary Alice (Joshua) Brennan, and Donald (Michelle) Thorsten. He was blessed with 17 grandchildren, Amy, Christopher, and Sylvia Moore, Mitchell, Alex, and Angela Intallura, Joseph, Valerie, and Zachary Long, Joshua, Jackson, Austin, Madelyn, and Samuel Brennan, Chase, Parker, and Kaylee Thorsten and one great-granddaughter Iris Moore. A life well lived.

A graveside service with military rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024 in North Bend Cemetery with Martha Sykes and Pastor Rich Colvin officiating.
