HYNER – Join the park naturalist at Hyner Run State Park for a late-morning and afternoon filled with local history of the Hyner area.
There will be five programs dealing with the history of the area:
“CCC of Clinton County” at 11:00 am – program presented by the park naturalist, and will be about some of the camps in Clinton County and its surroundings (including CCC Camp S-75 “Hyner”!).
“Coal Industry” at 1:00 pm – program presented by Lou Bernard, overseer of Adult Services at Ross Library and local historian, and will be about the coal industry in the area.
“Forests of the Past” at 2:00 pm – program presented by Lin Greenaway, Forester of the Sproul State Forest, and will take a look at some topics, like how the forests looked before colonists came over and how the forests were altered.
“Logging” is an ongoing program from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm – presented by Jennifer Haines, Museum Educator at Pennsylvania Logging Museum, will be about the logging industry in the area and some of the tools used.
“Branding Tree Cookies” is an ongoing program from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm – presented by Hyner Run campground hosts, and will consist of “branding” a tree cookie like the old-fashioned logging stamps, as a memento to take home.
Feel free to come to all three programs, or go to one and hop in the pool or grill those hot dogs.
All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate in the program.
Programs may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or new state or community guidelines. “CCC of Clinton County” and “Coal Industry” will be held at the amphitheater (by the pool) and will be moved to Pavilion #1 in the event of rain. “Forests of the Past” will be held at Pavilion #1. The two ongoing programs will be held in the lawn by the amphitheater. Please bring a lawn chair.
Programs start at 11:00 AM. Come for all three, or enjoy a picnic or dip in the pool and stay for one. Please bring a lawn chair for the programs marked as taking place in the amphitheater. Programs may be changed or canceled in the event of severe weather or other community guidelines.
