Miss Central Mountain Sofia Dressler to compete in Laurel Festival
The highlight of the 82nd Annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival in Wellsboro is the coronation of the 2024 Laurel Queen this Saturday, June 15.
While in Wellsboro, the 30 Laurel Queen candidates will enjoy a full weekend of activities. Our local Central Mountain representative this year is:
Miss Central Mountain Sofia Dressler
Miss Sofia Dressler is representing Central Mountain High School and her community as a Pennsylvania Laurel Queen candidate.
She is the daughter of Amy and Jared Dressler of Lock Haven.
For all four years of high school, Miss Dressler ran for her school’s cross-country and track & field teams. She was also a violinist and vocalist for her church Praise Band. Sofia achieved High Honor Roll for all four years. During her sophomore, junior, and senior years, she was a member of the Rotary Interact Club, serving as the Treasurer in her junior year and as the President in her senior year. During her junior and senior years, she was a Skills USA competing team member, winning first place in both years for District VI Technical Math. She was also a member of the National Honor Society and a Student Government Founding Member.
Miss Dressler played with her school orchestra during her freshman and sophomore years. She was named an AP Scholar of Distinction in her sophomore and junior years.
In her junior year, Sofia was the PA State Runner-Up for Skills USA Technical Math. Also in her junior year, she won the Croda Scholarship to attend Bucknell University’s Engineering Camp. She was in the first place game of the 24 Bloomsburg Math Competition. She played basketball her freshman year and was a member of the school Drama Club in her senior year. In her freshman year, she made it to the second place game of the 24 Bloomsburg Math Competition. Miss Dressler has been named the class valedictorian for her senior year, for the class of 2024. She enjoys playing the violin and the ukulele, singing, reading, and running. Throughout her years in high school, she has had work as a housesitter and dogsitter. Over the last few months of her senior year, she has worked at First Quality in the Engineering Department as part of her high school’s work co-op plan. This fall, she plans to attend Notre Dame University in Notre Dame, Indiana, majoring in Chemical Engineering with a possible minor in Math. She hopes to pursue a career as a chemical engineer.
