14th Annual BMC Cruise for a Cure: Renovo ATV Ride Raises Funds for Cancer Research

RENOVO -The engines revved and excitement filled the air as participants gathered for the 14th Annual Bucktail Medical Center Cruise for a Cure, a guided ATV ride aimed at supporting cancer research. The event attracted avid ATV enthusiasts and passionate supporters alike, with a total of 244 individuals eagerly registered to take part.Organized by the Bucktail Medical Center Relay for Life Team in collaboration with the Central Mountain ATV Association, this event drew ATV enthusiasts and supporters from near and far.

Taking place on Saturday, June 8, the event kicked off at 7 a.m. at the Flaming Foliage Lot on Huron Avenue in Renovo, PA. Riders gathered to embark on a journey through picturesque landscapes while contributing to a noble cause. Proceeds from the event directly benefited the American Cancer Society, underscoring the community’s commitment to fighting cancer.

“This annual ATV ride is not just about exhilarating trails and scenic routes; it’s about coming together to make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer,” remarked a representative from the organizing committee.

Before embarking on the ride, all participants received thorough briefings on safety protocols and guidelines, guaranteeing a seamless and secure experience. Each group was accompanied by a minimum of three safety officers, providing continuous support and direction during the journey. Every precaution, from compliance with state and federal laws to adherence to designated routes, was meticulously followed to prioritize safety above all else. The Ride commenced with riders divided into five groups, each consisting of 30 riders, and released at intervals of 20 minutes, ensuring optimal traveling conditions for all, with the last group departing at 10:20 a.m.

Spanning about 68 miles, the ride showcased a mix of off-road trails, scenic routes, and breathtaking vistas, promising participants an exhilarating and diverse ATV adventure. At Quiet Oaks Campground, riders were given the opportunity to unwind amidst the serene beauty of nature, indulging in a quick meal offered by the Bucktail Boys Booster Club.

Those who registered before April 30 were guaranteed a commemorative T-shirt, a testament to their support for the cause. Local businesses and individuals rallied behind the event, offering sponsorship and support. Among the generous sponsors were Central Mountain ATV Assoc., Inc, Citizen Hose Company, Casper’s Custom Designs, The Knauff Family,Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc., Mud Hole Ministries, B.P.O. Elks #334, Scoots Service Center, The Lingle Corp., Smiths Excavating & Construction, LLC, American Legion Post 442, Sons & Daughters of Italy, #149, Tarantella’s Sudsy Pup, LLC, Valley ATV Club, The Stone family, Best Line Powersports, K&L Auto Sales, Renovo Fire Company, Kettle Creek Inn, and Tony’s Hardware.

Rosella Tarantella, a senior at Bucktail High School who will be representing her school this Autumn at the PA State Laurel Festival also dedicated her time and efforts toward the event this year as part of her senior project.Her contribution included gathering 29 baskets for a basket raffle and selling 50/50 tickets, which generated an additional $1644 for the cause. Rosella collaborated with her cousin Juliana Tarantella and Martha Sykes in this endeavor, motivated by her family’s longstanding involvement in the event’s success. The Knauff family, particularly influential in the event’s growth over the past 15 years, has a personal connection to the cause, as they’ve experienced the devastating impact of cancer firsthand. Rosella explained her choice of project, stating, “My family has always been deeply involved in this event, from volunteering in various capacities to providing food for ATV riders afterward. I wanted to contribute in the most meaningful way possible.”

 Adding to the festivities, participants were treated to a BBQ Chicken Dinner following the ride. As the evening progressed, members of the band “Impact” generously donated their time energizing the atmosphere with lively DJ music under the pavilion, entertaining both participants and those opting to camp for the night, creating a vibrant mix of celebration and relaxation.

The BMC Relay for Life team aims to maintain its position as one of the leading teams with The American Cancer Society by contributing a generous donation comparable to last year’s, which amounted to approximately $15,000. The 14th Annual BMC Cruise for a Cure exemplified the strength of community and unified effort in combating cancer. With each mile traveled, participants reaffirmed their dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those impacted by this disease. Those instrumental in orchestrating this impactful event eagerly anticipate many more years of success and progress in the fight against cancer.
