CM falls to Wyoming Valley powers Hazleton, 7-1
By Bees O’Brien
HAZLETON- Central Mountain baseball found themselves looking for an opponent on Thursday. Mifflin County, the Wildcats’ originally scheduled opponents were unable to face the Clinton County baseball squad. Some quick work within the Central Mountain athletic department would result in a road trip to Wyoming Valley I powers Hazleton.
The Cougars entered the game winning 15 contests in 2024 and when the Wildcats would leave Hazleton it would be 16 wins.
Hazleton would score 4 runs in the first inning and build their lead to 6-0 following the bottom of the second inning.
The Wildcats would finally counter Hazleton’s offense in the top of the third inning when Gardner Fravel would score to cut the hosts lead to 6-1, but the Cougars would counter with a run of their own in the bottom of the third inning.
Both squads would tighten up their defenses and pitching as there would be no more runs scored over the final four innings of play.
With the 7-1 victory, Hazleton improved to 16-4 on the season, while Central Mountain dropped to 12-5.
The Wildcats collected 8 hits on the day. Kevin Grenninger, Malaky Moyd and Isaiah Maldonado all collected two hits each to lead the way. Brady Lavelle and Blake Walker both added singles for Central Mountain, as well.
Lavelle also hurled 3 2/3 scoreless innings against a potent Cougar offense, allowing just two hits.
CM will next travel to Lewisburg on Monday.
