LOCK HAVEN- It was a rough day for Clinton County squads in Mid Penn Conference play. Bucktail’s 15-0 loss to Montgomery was matched by a 17-5 Sugar Valley loss to Muncy Wednesday afternoon at Taggert Park.
Sugar Valley would walk 13 Indians and commit 5 errors despite only being outhit by the District IV 2A powers Muncy 5-3.
Muncy built a 7-0 lead on the Phoenix through the first 3 innings. Sugar Valley would rally and make things interesting in the bottom of the third inning. The Phoenix would plate 5 runs and had visions of picking up their second victory in as many games.
A 3-run fourth inning from Muncy would be topped by another outburst in the top of the fifth inning that would see the visitors score 7 runs to force the 5-inning mercy rule.
Bryar Martin, Lance Winchester and Gage Lucas accounted for the three Sugar Valley hits. Winchester’s hit was a double.
Now 2-14 Sugar Valley will next be in action on Saturday morning when they travel to St. John Neumann for a special 10am start time.
