By Bees O’Brien
MONTGOMERY- Montgomery baseball is having a record setting season and on Wednesday afternoon they closed one step closer to capturing the 2024 Mid Penn Conference championship.
The Red Raiders would take advantage of 7 walks, a pair of Bucktail errors and strong pitching from cousins Briar and Parker Persing to down the Bucks 15-0 in three innings. The win pushed Montgomery’s record to 16-1 overall and a win at St. John Neumann on Friday would give them their first league championship since 2015.
Montgomery jumped out to an 8-0 lead after one inning and would only need one more at bat in their half of the second inning to tack on 8 more runs and set the 15-0 mercy rule win after three innings of play.
Brett Mason’s second inning single off of Briar Persing would be Bucktail’s only hit in the game. Montgomery connected on 7 base knocks, led by 2 hits and 4 runs batted in by Briar Persing.
The Bucks dropped to 2-14 on the season and will next meet Muncy on Friday in Farwell.
