LaPorte- 8 runs over the course of the first three innings would prove to be too much for Sugar Valley’s Lady Phoenix softball team on Monday night at Sullivan County.
The Lady Griffins, who entered their Mid Penn Conference clash with Sugar Valley undefeated would set the stage early with a pair of runs in their half of the first inning and used a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning to build a 4-0 lead.
The home squad’s lead grew to 8-0 following a four run third inning.
SVRC would not go down without a fight. In the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Phoenix would rally. Sugar Valley would plate three runs in the inning to narrow the Lady Griffins lead to 8-3.
Sullivan County would force the 10-run rule following a two-run fifth inning and a final three-run effort in the sixth inning to end the contest.
Cheyenne Weaver continued her hot streak for the Lady Phoenix by pounding out three hits. Olivia Johnson and Brynn Swanger each collected a pair of hits and Dakota Holdren, Olivia Clester and Ellynn Scarborough all collected hits as well.
Sugar Valley, now 1-3 will look to get back to their winning ways when they travel to Columbia Montour Vo-Tech (1-4) on Wednesday before they make the trip to Farwell on Wednesday to face district leading Bucktail (3-0)
