Moyer, Muncy down Sugar Valley Lady Phoenix 10-0 in 5 innings
By Bees O’Brien
MUNCY- Sugar Valley softball continued to show strides in their Mid Penn Conference contest at Muncy on Friday afternoon. The Lady Phoenix dropped their 2023 meetings to the Mid Penn favorites 22-1 and 16-0, but in this contest things would be a bit different.
Muncy would send Division I signee Nolah Moyer to the circle and the Lady Indians senior would be a force. The tall lefthander would pitch a 5-inning no-hitter and struck out 14 Lady Phoenix batters. Moyer’s perfect game and 10 Muncy runs would be enough to hold off a Sugar Valley team that played flawless defense and didn’t commit an error.
The Indians would pound out 13 hits on the day and built a 3-0 lead after one inning of play. The lead would grow to 7-0 following a 4-run second inning.
Moyer continued to mow down the Lady Phoenix at the plate and a final 3-run bottom of the third inning by Muncy would be enough to eventually hold off Sugar Valley and pick up the Mid Penn Conference victory.
Chevy Baumann led the way for Muncy with 2 hits and four runs batted in. Moyer connected on a pair of hits, including a double and 3 RBI’s. Catcher Taylor Shannon would go 2 for 2 with a double and a run batted in.
Sugar Valley, now 1-2 will next be in action on Monday against undefeated Sullivan County in LaPorte. Muncy (3-0) will next be in action Saturday morning when they are set to host Bloomsburg.
