LHU Baseball drops non-conference game at UPJ
JOHNSTOWN – The Lock Haven baseball team (6-18 overall) fell on the road, 9-0, to the University of Pitt-Johnstown (10-12 overall) in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon (March 26).
Tuesday’s single, 9-inning game, marked a quick break in the Bald Eagles’ Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division schedule, which kicks back up on Friday afternoon (March 29) when Lock Haven hosts nationally-ranked Millersville at Watkins Field.
Pitt-Johnstown 9, Lock Haven 0 (*single, 9-inning game)
The Bald Eagles’ pitching staff limited UPJ to just six hits, but the Mountain Cats took advantage of eight walks and one Lock Haven error, while stealing a game-high five bases to plate nine runs.
Lock Haven’s best chance came in the top of the third inning when the Bald Eagles loaded the bases, but UPJ worked out of the jam without surrendering a run.
Jace Szaflarski (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) and Dylan McKenna (Islip, N.Y./Islip) combined for six-innings pitched for Lock Haven and struck out two hitters each.
Francisco Taveras (Muhlenberg, Pa./Muhlenberg), Stephen McMillan (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks) and Lance Baldensperger (Warren, Pa./Warren) notched hits on the day for The Haven.
