LHU Baseball drops a pair at West Chester

WEST CHESTER– The Lock Haven baseball dropped a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division games, 7-1 and 8-4, on the road at West Chester University on Monday afternoon (Monday, March 25).

After the four-game set with West Chester (14-5-1, 7-5 PSAC East), the Bald Eagles fall to 6-17 overall and 3-9 in the PSAC East. The Golden Rams secured the series sweep following Monday’s doubleheader.

Game 1 Recap: West Chester 7, Lock Haven 1

Game one featured a pitcher’s duel through the opening three innings and both teams were held scoreless.

However, the Golden Rams got their bats going with a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, before putting the game away with a four-spot in the bottom of the sixth.

Lock Haven scored its lone run in the top of the sixth when Greg Cristino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) tripled to center field to score Jace Szestowski (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim).

Cristino led the Bald Eagles offense with two hits, a triple and an RBI.

Garrett Starr (Muhlenberg, Pa./Muhlenberg) pitched five-complete innings, including three scoreless, adding three strikeouts. Starr (2-3) was charged with six runs in the loss.

Game 2 Recap: West Chester 8, Lock Haven 4

In game two, West Chester scored a pair of runs in the first two innings to lead early, 2-0.

Lock Haven knotted the score at 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning after an RBI-triple by Cristino and an RBI single by Stephen McMillan (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks) .

However, West Chester took the game over in the bottom of fourth inning with five runs to go back on top, 7-.

Lock Haven plated two more runs in the top of the fifth on the second and third RBIs of the contest by Cristino to cut the deficit to 7-4, but the Golden Rams added an insurance run in the sixth, before closing out the victory in the seventh.

Cristino led the offensive charge for Lock Haven as he finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a triple. McMillan also had a productive game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Bald Eagles travel to University of Pitt-Johnstown tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday, March 26) for a single-9 inning non-conference game, starting at 2 p.m.
