LHU Lacrosse improves to perfect 4-0 with hard-fought win on the road
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Lock Haven lacrosse team improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season with a hard-fought and thrilling, 12-11, victory on the road at D’Youville (2-3) Saturday (March 9) afternoon in non-conference action.
For Lock Haven, it’s the first 4-0 start since 2016.
Gabby Gunnip (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan Elbridge) and Emma Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led the way on offense as they finished with six and five points, respectively. Gunnip scored three goals and dished out three assists, while Williams netted three goals and added two assists.
Makayla Kelly (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) also netted a hat trick, and she added an assist.
Nadia Baskot (Damascus, Md./Damascus) scored two goals and dished out a helper, and Abby Katrinak (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) scored once and tallied two assists.
Kelly finished with five draw controls and Gunnip added three caused turnovers.
Josey Shaffer (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
As a unit, The Haven defense was credited with 15 caused turnovers and goalkeeper Dana Mirigliano (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) finished with eight saves.
The game was a tight one from the start. The two teams were tied 4-4 at the end of the first quarter and it was 7-7 at halftime. The hosts led by one, 11-10, as the two teams headed to the fourth quarter.
Fourth-quarter goals from Kelly and Gunnip helped secure the road victory in comeback fashion.
