LHU Baseball pitches shutout in game two to earn split on second day in Wilson, NC.
WILSON, N.C. – The Lock Haven baseball team (3-2 overall) dealt a shutout to down Jefferson, 3-0, in game two of a non-conference doubleheader at Fleming Stadium on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 24). Lock Haven fell to West Virginia State, 6-0, in the opening game of the day.
Game Two: Lock Haven 3, Jefferson 0
Kevin Worek (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington) (1-0) and Will Stambaugh (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) combined for a four-hit, nine-inning shutout to lead the Bald Eagles to their third victory of the young season.
Worek started the first five innings and allowed just four hits, while striking out seven. Stambaugh closed out the remaining four frames and did not allow a hit, while adding five strikeouts.
Greg Cristino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) continued his red-hot start to the weekend and went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Zachary McEllroy (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) added an RBI-double, while Lance Baldensperger (Warren, Pa./Warren) also drove in a run.
The Bald Eagles finished with a game-high seven hits and no blemishes in the field.
Game One: West Virginia State 6, Lock Haven 0
West Virginia State scored three runs in the top of the first and three more over the eighth and ninth inning, while shutting out the Bald Eagles to earn the weekend sweep.
Lock Haven finished with three hits and were plagued by three errors.
Three different Bald Eagles notched a hit, while Dante Bruno (Telford, Pa./Souderton Area) led the way with a double. Matt Lingenfelter (State College, Pa./State College) got the start for Lock Haven and turned in a quality outing, tossing six-complete innings with seven strikeouts.
