Phoenix Trio in District 4 Consolations

By Joe Walker

WILLIAMSPORT-The Sugar Valley Rural Charter School took three wrestlers into District 4 Class AA tournament and unfortunately all three were knocked into the consolations after the opening day, but all three still have the chance to wrestle back to earn a trip to the Northeast Regional Tournament.

Phoenix junior Jarren McCloskey (27-10) dropped his opening round match by a fall in 3:01 to Keegen Bagley (17-15) of Sullivan County. McCloskey drops into the first round of consolations where he will face Lane Kenamond (21-11) of Mifflinburg.

Fourth seeded Cameron Quick (29-7) drew a first round bye and then in the championship quarterfinals he was pinned in 3:31 by fifth seeded Holden Ward (33-12) of the Canton Warriors. Quick will now face Cooper Robinson (25-13) of Athens in the consolations first round.

The Phoenix Ethan Bartenope (8-16) was a late addition to the District tournament, as two wrestlers back out and thus allowed for the Central Section sixth place finisher to compete. Bartenope dropped his first round bout by a first period fall in 1:31 to Dalton Schadel (24-12) of Line Mountain. In the first round of consolations he will face Owen Cummings (26-7) of Williamson.

The Warrior Run Defenders are in first place after day one with 73.5 points, while the Montoursville Warriors are second with 55.5 points and the Red Raiders of Montgomery sit in third place with 42.5 points.

Action gets underway Saturday at 9:30 am and continue until the championship finals at 4:30 pm.
