Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital and Geisinger Medical Center Muncy bestow DAISY and Sunflower awards
Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital and Geisinger Medical Center Muncy are pleased to announce that Stevie-Lee Hecknauer, RN, Ashley Miles and Star Bixby, RN, have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to patient care and nursing excellence.
The DAISY and Sunflower awards are national recognition programs that honor nurses and caregivers for their extraordinary compassion, skill and commitment. All three Geisinger honorees stood out for their exceptional patient-centered care, innovative approaches to nursing, and their unwavering commitment to improving the overall patient experience.
Stevie-Lee Hecknauer, RN, of Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital, was presented with a DAISY Award for her ability to make patients feel safe and secure. In her nomination, Ms. Hecknauer was described as kind, empathetic and helpful — an asset to the hospital, team, unit and patients. Patients recognize her willingness to take the time they need when giving care. Her nominator said they were “truly blessed” to have Ms. Hecknauer at their bedside, adding that “she is a phenomenal nurse and person.”
Ashely Miles, patient care technician II at Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital, was recognized with a Sunflower Award. According to her nomination, Ms. Miles goes above and beyond every day in the Emergency Department. She is the first to jump in with unit projects and she is invested in making sure that the highest standards are always met. Ms. Miles has worked in several community events this year and is committed not only to her work, but to the community she serves. Her spirit of kindness is unmatched, said the nominator, adding they were “blessed to have her.”
A DAISY Award was also given to Star Bixby, an RN in the Emergency Department at Geisinger Medical Center Muncy. Ms. Bixby was recognized for her ability to make patients feel safe. The nominator noted she always gives excellent explanations to her patients about their care. Patients have recognized her many times for going above and beyond and making them feel cared for.
