LHU Softball opens 2024 season at LMU Invitational

HARROGATE, Tenn – The Lock Haven softball team opened its 2024 campaign by traveling to the Lincoln Memorial University Invitational to compete in a non-conference doubleheader vs. Ohio Dominican and host school Lincoln Memorial.

The Bald Eagles fell 4-1 to Ohio Dominican in game one and 9-2 to Lincoln Memorial in the nightcap.

Game One: Ohio Dominican 4, Lock Haven 1

The Bald Eagles opened their four-game set at the LMU Invitational against Ohio Dominican and fell, 4-1, in a close affair.

The Panthers set the tone in the opening inning by scoring all four of their runs.

In the top of the fifth, Lock Haven strung together two hits and a double-steal forced in a run to cut the deficit to 4-1.

However, that was the final run of the game and Ohio Dominican hung on for the victory.

Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) scored the Bald Eagles’ run, finishing with a single, hit-by-pitch and a stolen base.

Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) finished 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases. Madison Melius (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) added a double.

Faith Persing (Montgomery, Pa./Bloomsburg) got the start in the circle in game one and tossed all seven innings.

Game Two: Lincoln Memorial 9, Lock Haven 2

Lock Haven opened the scoring with a solo run in the top of the first, but LMU answered with the equalizer in the bottom half.

The game went scoreless in the second frame, but LMU took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.

Lincoln Memorial scored three runs in the sixth and seventh inning to round out the scoring.

Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York ) and Hailey Irwin (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) scored the runs for Lock Haven.

Good singled and added another stolen base. Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) added a double.

Madison Waltman (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) got the start in game two for Lock Haven. Kinley Gioglio (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and Keiva Middleton (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) threw in relief.

The Bald Eagles wrap up their trip in Harrogate, Tenn. tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 18) with a non-conference doubleheader vs. No. 2 Grand Valley State and Lincoln Memorial beginning at 11 a.m. The doubleheader has been moved to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. due to forecasted weather.
