Lady Bucks get back to .500 with 42-28 win over Sullivan County

FARWELL- Bucktail was looking to build momentum off of their dramatic 55-50 overtime victory over Austin on Monday night. Sullivan County, out of the Mid Penn Conference’s East Division would be the opposition on Wednesday night. The Lady Bucks would take care of business in a physical battle and come away with a 42-28 conference victory.

With the race for playoff positioning getting under way, Bucktail needed the victory and Austin’s 45-31 upset over NTL-leading Port Allegany would only help the Lady Bucks’ current District IV positioning within the 1A field.

Bucktail and Sullivan County were both sluggish out of the gates. The Lady Bucks led just 9-7 after one quarter. The Lady Griffins entered the contest with just a single victory, but that didn’t stop them from putting forth their best effort.

A 16-11 Bucktail advantage would give the home team a more secure lead of 25-18 at the break.

Sullivan County would continue to fight and were only outscored 8-7 following halftime. Bucktail’s 9-3 final frame would be enough to handle the visitors.

Mak Wagner led Bucktail with 16 points. Alexis Lowery finished a strong night with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Kendall Wagner led Bucktail on the glass with 13 rebounds to go along with her 8 points and Dezlyn Halpate dropped in 8 points.

Harney led Sullivan County with 9 points.

Bucktail, now 5-5 will host Columbia Montour Vo-Tech on Saturday with a huge amount of playoff power points at stake against the 3A Lady Rams.

Sullivan County fell to 1-7.
