CM boys’ soccer shuts down Millionaires, 2-0
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Central Mountain boys soccer team traveled to PHAC opponent Williamsport on Thursday night, and came away a huge 2-0 win on the road.
Lincoln Breon opened the scoring in the 13th minute to take an early lead for the Wildcats, and fortunately they never looked back. The Sugar Valley native hustled down the left side after a Peyton Jones through ball, a ball that the coaches thought was heading out of bounds. Breon not only reached the pass, but angled the ball towards goal and past the keeper for the 1-0 lead. The goal was the junior’s first of the season.
Williamsport began to gain possession and control the tempo a bit as the half went on, but the Wildcats were able to keep a big zero on the board. A save by Luke Simcox on a direct free kick was the most dangerous action of the half.
At halftime, the discussion turned to getting a second goal to help with the comfort. In the 55th minute, Jones did just that. Asher Talbot found the senior winger’s feet, and Jones turned inside before firing a shot to the far post for his first goal of the season.
With the 2-0 lead, the Wildcats maintained possession in vital positions and even created a few more opportunities. Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t find the net to increase the lead.
Simcox was huge in goal, and the starting back line of Bronson Brungard, Cole Cooper, Isaiah Brinker, and Griffin Confer helped keep the shutout. Max Verrelli and Taylor Heaton saw lots of action in the back as well, as the Wildcats earned their third shutout of the young season.
The Wildcats are back at home on Saturday vs. PHAC opponent Warrior Run. Varsity kicks off at 2 p.m., followed by JV at 3:30.
