Lady Bucks keep pace in District IV race with 36-22 home win
FARWELL- Bucktail’s front court combination of Eva Sockman and Kendall Wagner may very well be the best in the entire Mid Penn Conference, if not the entire district. On Friday night the senior duo bruised and battered visiting Millville to help give Bucktail an easy 36-22 home win.
Sockman grabbed a game-high 21 rebounds and swatted away 5 Lady Quaker shots. Wagner netted 15 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and collected 4 blocked shots, while sister Kelsie Wagner dropped in 15 points. All three Lady Bucks also drilled three-point baskets for a Bucktail team that dropped down to seventh place in the current District IV power standings. The win over Millville should see the Cherry & White move up the standings.
Bucktail opened up with a 12-3 first quarter and their 11-4 second quarter spurt had them up 23-7 at the break.
The third quarter seen more of the Bucktail front court taking advantage of the Lady Quakers. A 9-4 third quarter had head coach Suellen Wagner’s squad up 32-11.
The fourth and final quarter would see Millville find some success against the Bucktail JV unit. The Lady Quakers doubled their point total by netting 11 points to the Lady Bucks 4 to set the final.
Eden Snyder connected on a fourth quarter free throw to add to the Bucktail scoring tally.
Now 5-6 Bucktail will have a huge home game on Monday when they host Sullivan County. The Lady Griffins are currently 5-6 and a win will propel Bucktail back into the top four in the district standings. That position is crucial as the top four teams host quarterfinal playoff games.
