LH women’s soccer falls to Shippensburg

LOCK HAVAEN, PA – The Lock Haven women’s soccer team (0-4, 0-3 PSAC East) fell to visiting Shippensburg (1-3, 1-1 PSAC East), 2-1, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action in front of a packed house as the Bald Eagles celebrated youth soccer by hosting their annual West Branch Soccer Club Appreciation Day.

Evelyn Ciaccia (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) scored the goal for the Bald Eagles.

Visiting Shippensburg went up 1-0 in the 24th minute of play and held the 1-0 lead at halftime.

Lock Haven took control of the match on the second half whistle and the early pressure paid off. Ciaccia tied the game at 1-1 in the 56th minute. Julia Haines (Arendtsville, Pa./Biglerville) was credited with the assist on the goal, which ame off a well-timed corner kick.

The visitors regained the lead in the 68th minute and the late goal by Olivia Stephen.

The Bald Eagles pressed hard late but couldn’t find the equalizer.

A number of individuals stood out for Lock Haven in the hard-fought clash including goalkeeper Megan Miller (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) kept the Bald Eagles in the match with two saves.

The Bald Eagles will be idle this weekend and return to action next week at Bloomsburg on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.
