Words of Grace
By Rev. Mahlon Nevel
“This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it “ (Psalm 118:24).
We use this verse of scripture. in a general sense to apply to every day. When we are having a bad day, we remind ourself not to complain. Because the Lord has made this day, we should rejoice and be glad.
But this day refers to a special day that was coming. Blessed is he that is coming in the name of the Lord “(V.26).
When that day had come in the fulness of time, God sent his Son into the world. Born of a woman, and made under the law, Jesus died to redeem us who are under the law. (Galatians 4:4,5)
We can rejoice and be glad because the day the Lord made has come. Because of that day, today is “the day of Salvation” (I Corinthians 6:2). Now is the accepted time to be saved. Now is the day of salvation for each of us.
Billy Sunday was a professional baseball player many years ago. When he was converted to Christ, the Lord called him to be an evangelist. In one of his sermons he wondered:
“Why are so few people coming into the Kingdom? Because there’ is not a definite effort put forth to persuade a definate person to receive a definate Savior at a definate time- and that definate time is now.”
