Optimist’s Roundtable
By Martha Sykes
Our nation has been blessed in many ways, and our country has gone through terrible tragedies, but even in those times of trouble, the love of God shines through, and we realize even more how blessed we are. In the book of Psalms, it says, “May His name endure forever, may it continue as long as the sun. All nations will be blessed through Him, and they will call him blessed”.
In a few days, we will be celebrating the Fourth of July; God has been so faithful to us, and we are so fortunate to celebrate independence in our country.
God has given us the gift of freedom in His own way and every day He gives us the opportunity to be free of the burdens that weigh us down and to give it all to Him.
The gift of salvation is free to all of us if we just have the faith to believe Him and believe in Him.
We know there are great and mighty things that need to be done in this world, and at times it may seem like it is impossible to make it better. But Jesus tells us that His yoke is easy and we need to let God care for us, and to help us along in this spiritual journey. We certainly do have a lot of freedoms to celebrate.
I’d like to share this poem with you:
As we look back on this great nation
We’ve come a long, long way
For God has blessed our country
And He still blesses us today
He has given us so many freedoms
Especially the gift of love
It is His grace and mercy
He gives to us from above
We shouldn’t take for granted
All the many gifts He gives
But be thankful that we have Him
And believe that He still lives
So let us celebrate this holiday
And let go, and let God lead
For He’s there to take our burdens
And give us what we need.
