Bucktail’s Leiter places second in state trap championships, Central Mountain finishes 5th
By Bees O’Brien
ELYSBURG, PA- The world of competitive trap shooting comes with it, its own unique terminology and rules. It’s a sport that isn’t easily understood, but one Bucktail student shooting for the Central Mountain Clay Target Team certainly does understand the sport.
Jake Leiter unleashed the school’s first ever 50 straight to position himself to being the second-best trap shooter in the state of Pennsylvania at the high school championships Sunday in Elysburg. Leiter’s effort positioned Central Mountain into claiming fifth overall place.
Leiter’s total score of 98 was one target shy of state champion Joshua Beal of Keystone-Clarion-North Clarion.
Beal would shoot a 99 to claim the title.
Central Mountain’s Wyatt Ripka and Glenn Hough would finish tied for 13th place, as both would shoot a 96.
Leiter isn’t the only co-op participant for Central Mountain. Sugar Valley Rural Charter School’s Lance Winchester is also a member of the team and shot a 25 straight during Sunday’s state championship.
Fort LeBoeuf won the overall team title, followed by Connellsville, Southern Fulton, General McLane, Central Mountain, Conneaut, Cambridge Springs and Central Valley rounding out the top 8.
